I’m Kathleen, and I take amazing photos of amazing people. It’s my joy, passion and honor to be able to photograph high school seniors. This is such an important time in their lives: The shell of childhood is cracking, and the adult they’re becoming is starting to shine out of those cracks. Their senior portraits should illuminate the personality of the adult they are becoming, and that’s what I do.
As the mother of two, I know the trials and pitfalls of the high school years, and the toll it can take on a teen’s self-image. Social media, their peers and our culture in general all combine to bombard teens with an often-unattainable concept of perfection. This can leave them struggling with ideas of who they should be, what they should look like, and what avenues they should pursue. What I get to do with my camera is to show them how truly awesome they are, no matter how they appear to measure up to society’s skewed standards. I love the moments when I’m photographing a senior, and I turn the camera around to show them a shot, and they are awed at what they look like. Those are the best moments for me, what I like to call “confidence through photography.”
I’ve specialized in a wide range of photographic subjects, from floral to women’s portraiture. But when I started shooting high school seniors, I knew I’d found my niche. I think senior portraits should be one of the highlights of a teen’s high school experience, and my goal is to make that a reality for every one of my clients.
